About this fly-tying novice class.
We are happy to announce that the Masterclass Novice Level Fly Tying—the 2-day course—is offered again throughout the winter months from January 2025 through March 2025. It is for all ability levels but is catered towards those just beginning their journey in this art form. We teach techniques and procedures that apply to all fly patterns.
All classes are supplied with all the tools and materials. There is no need to prepurchase the additional cost of a fly-tying kit for the course. These classes are excellent "Birthday, Christmas, and Anniversary" gifts for the outdoors person in your life. As a GAIA-certified fly-tying instructor, Gary Hanke is pleased to offer the following class.
"The object of this program will be to teach, in a practical manner, the Art of Fly Tying at a "Novice/Beginner Level.”
For this fly-tying program, we will provide you with quality materials and tools for free, including all hooks, materials, and fly-tying tools. With these supplies, you can tie many different fly patterns by using any of the successfully proven Western patterns we will teach as a base set of flies.
Each pattern has been selected to illustrate a basic fly-tying procedure and tying technique applicable to hundreds of other fly patterns. Remember that although the patterns taught in this course are excellent flies, learning the procedures and techniques illustrated by these patterns will make you a fly tier. These procedures and methods are carried over from one fly pattern to the next. Once each procedure or method is mastered, you can tie various fly patterns by simply varying the materials and the order of the techniques and procedures. (Overcome the domino effect!)
It is always a good idea to try out a variety of fly-tying tools and vices before purchasing those that best suit your needs and your budget. We provide 5 different types of vices and a variety of fly-tying tools for you to work with while learning how to tie flies. There is no need to pre-purchase a fly-tying kit for our class. This is a large saving, and the end result puts you into tools and materials that will fit your needs.

This course is necessary for anyone interested in becoming a fly tier or simply sharpening their skills. Gary has decades of experience and has ties all over the world.
